Hi Simon, your 4 kg of clay don't look like "my" 4 kg ... they look much more like "my" 7 kg. Is that any rules or consideration about the volume and the weight of clay ? Actually I am buying by 10 kg and in a plastic bag. But frankly I never checked the effective weight. Another question would b...
About Lao Qiao Pottery Studio's channel
Who is 老 橋 Lao Qiao ?
Lao Qiao is the Chinese name given to Joël van Cranenbroeck by the Director of the Surveying and Mapping Institute in Hangzhou, PR China early 2004. It means 'Honourable Bridge' but has also been used to describe immigrants to America from rural China. There are several stories associated with my Chinese name and I will be happy to tell you them when we meet in my studio.
I am a qualified Belgian Land Surveyor (Géomètre Expert) and a humble beginner potter. I have long been fascinated by the clay material and when I was young, like many others I was playing with mud and plasticine. My ancestors were farmers and so becoming a surveyor and geodesist, made sense since it's about measuring the earth while being a potter is about shaping the clay.

As a land surveyor and geodesist, my dream was to be able to measure the earth and to use geometry as a way of silently admiring the laws of harmony that govern our universe. As life goes, my career led me to travel a great deal to complete worldwide projects and to discover different cultures, religions, and in particular to meet outstanding people who became friends. I got the feeling that a combination of Western and Eastern arts and philosophies would be the basis for a new means of creative expression. From measuring the earth I also began to love shaping the clay that would inhabit our living spaces. I do hope to share my philosophies and passion with you throughout this website. Many thanks for your kind attention.
So nice and impressive ! ... So many thanks for sharing your experience ...
