Usually, unless you have a unique special skill, or are an ethnicity they don't already have in your age range. But, you don't need a good resume for commercials.

It takes a lot of work and patience. You need to take classes and do plays. You can also start learning with student films and commercials on Actor's Access. Then you can submit your picture to agencies. Only an agent can get you the good auditions. It's hard if you are tall like me, because they usually will cast older kids that can play younger. But if you really love it, you have to go for it.
