Los Angeles based Bangladeshi singer Annie Jilani has already created a wave among the Bengali community in the US. The multi-lingual vocalist has been given the title 'Gaaner Raani Annie' by a Bengali newspaper published from Los Angeles. The artiste recently returned to Dhaka and performed solo for the first time at the city's Hotel Lakeshore in Gulshan.
Annie's performance included a number of versatile songs in different language, representing diverse of moods. She began her performance with the famous soundtrack from the Oscar-winning film Titanic, 'My heart will go on.' Annie's voice is also fitted for the highly grave emotive Ghazals. 'Mujhe tum najar se', a popular Ghazal in Pakistan, had a spell-binding effect on the night when Annie sang it at the event.
She sang one of her favorite Bangla songs 'Ei mon tomake dilam,' the celebrated number by Sabina Yasmin. Annie's performance of Bangla songs also included a patriotic song a Nazrul Geeti and the classic song 'Bhalobasho tumi shunechi onekbar.' Annie did not fail to rock her audience with some hit Bollywood songs either.
The audience in response stormed her with requests, and Annie had to return on stage to continue her exotic musical performances even after the dinner.
About her passion for music, Annie told, 'At one point in my early life, I realize that singing is what I enjoy most. Thus I chose this life.' The diva also commented that the uprising musicians should never give up music. Annie received her tutelage in singing from Bulbul Academy, Ustad Pulind Babu was also her teacher .
She moved to the United States in the early eighties and graduated with a degree in Computer Science from Devry University of California. Her album 'Ami Je Adhaare Bondini' is to be released in Dhaka soon. The singer hopes to perform more in Bangladesh.See More

I started singing at very early age of my life. My mom has a lot to do with it. She herself was a singer. I use to love my mom singing and the songs she use to listen. As I grew up, I realized how much I love to sing. So, I took classes at BAFA, where I was allowed to have public performance, and after that I had the opportunity to learn from Ostad Pulind Babu. He helpeg me appear in public again. But it was about time for me to live the country and come to USA, to start a new life. Unfortunately, I got so occupied with my life, I practically had no time for any singing. Then many years pass by Deshi community started to grow. The demand for singing, and cultural programs are outbursting. So singing again, started to take its place in my life. I realized how joyful it is for me to sing. My desire for singing in public grown more and more and came to a point where I want to reach those people who live far away from California. Then I decided I should have my own CD, through which medium I could instantly reach millions of listeners. So year 2006, I recorded some songs. I named it "Amije Adhare Bondini." Fall 2006 I also did the videos for all those songs. Name of this music video is "Ganermela". I am working on my 2nd CD to publish anytime soon. This one is full of Hindi songs. I am fortunate enough to have appeared on TV several times. I am titled, "Probashe Ganer Rani Annie" by local newspaper named "EKUSH". I also earned top 10 cultural face. I performed locally and also out of state. I really THANK all of you who took the time to listen to my songs.
