Founded in 1978 after "the first Wooden Boat Festival in the US" according to WoodenBoat magazine. Over three decades the Foundation has grown to serve nearly 150,000 people annually in its educational programs, events and support for maritime culture, marine trades business and connections with other wooden boat entities worldwide. In 2005, it merged with Northwest Maritime Center and through their combined efforts to strengthen support for maritime heritage, culture and education in Port Townsend, the region and the world.
