About this user
For over 30 years Wolfgang Kalb has been playing and singing acoustic Blues, especially Country Blues, enriched with ragtime, Gospel and jazz ballads. In the fingerpicking style or using the bottleneck method on the Dobro guitar (resonator guitar) he interprets his own adaptations, standards or blues classics of his idols Blind Blake, Robert Johnson, Mississippi John Hurt and other Country and Blues artists from the 1920s and 1930s. The musical influences of Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker can also be clearly heard.
At appearances in the 1970s up to the middle of the 1990s, he shared the stage with regional artists and with Blues greats such as Champion Jack Dupree, Louisiana Red, Blind John Davis and even Martin Philippi.
After a break of several years from giving concerts, Wolfgang Kalb has again been doing regular concerts for three years (e.g. New Orleans Jazz Festival in Wendelstein, Schmölzer Bluestage, Jazz Weekends, New Orleans Festival Fürth, Meppen Bluesnight etc.).
2006 he visted Robert Lockwood Jr. and Honeyboy Edwards in New York.
Stories on the Blues, the origin of the songs and personal experiences are added to the musical journey through the history of this musical genre.
