Rob Schröder was one of the founders of Wild Plakken ('illegal billposting', 1977-1993), a designers' collective, with Lies Ros and Frank Beekers, working for cultural institutions such as The Dutch Opera and the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, but also for social and political groups: squatters, left wing political parties and trade unions.
WP designed posters, books, exhibitions and post stamps, many of which earned awards nationally and internationally. Wild Plakken inspired politically activist designers worldwide.

In 1991 Rob Schröder was asked to work for the VPRO, a Dutch national broadcaster. He designed a great number of leaders and program formats and made political and cultural clips - statements of two or three minutes which he called moving posters.

In 1993 he worked for more than a year on the documentary series 'Beeldstorm' (Image Storm) with director Frank Wiering. The series dealt with the new media and its social and political consequences, and featured critical interviews with the internet gurus of the time.

Between 1995 and 1998 Rob Schröder was editor and director for the documentary series 'Late in the evening', a program on art and new media from a broad perspective. For it, he made documentaries about black culture in the USA, artists living in Hong Kong before the take-over by China with Chief-editor George Brugmans, the quality of modern architecture in the city of Berlin, graphic design for old and new media and the history of squatter-culture in the centre of old Amsterdam.
In 1998 Schröder was awarded the prestigious H.N. Werkman Award for his TV documentary 'On Speed'.

Between 1998 and 2002 he was editor and director for the TV program 'The New World', a documentary series about the political and social situation in the world after the fall of the Berlin wall. He made documentaries about the extreme right in Europe, the situation in Cuba, the crisis in Dutch politics, consumer society and the environment.
Still at the VPRO, Schröder also served as chief editor for the art program 'Bonanza'. For this series, he made documentaries about avant-garde art and artists in China, Naomi Klein and Adbusters, the Venice Biennale, the Kassel Documenta, and architect Daniel Libeskind.
The last documentaries he made were "Moral Panic" with Submarine, "Voor Volk en Vaderland" about Neo-Nazies in Holland, "De Snuffelstaat" about the Secret Service in Holland, "Caracas, The Informal City" for the VPRO program-series Tegenlicht (Backlight) and "The Dialoque Bombs" for Kosmopolis TV.
His last film was "Stayin' Alive In Jo'burg" about Johannesburg and the World Cup of 2010.

At the moment Schröder is working with Gabriëlle Provaas on a script for a feature film, the project "Kijk op Zuid"; a documentary with Henk Oosterling about the south part of Rotterdam, a documentary about Hoograven, a neighbourhood in Utrecht and film about prostitution in Amsterdam.

From 1982 until 1997 Rob Schröder was a professor at the graphic design department and the audio visual department of the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam.

In 1997 he was one of the founders of the Sandberg Institute, the post-graduate institute of the Gerrit Rietveld Academy. He headed the Sandberg's department of design and new media for five years, and is still teaching there.
