If the Dalai Lama says that his teachers are wrong, then everything they taught must be wrong, hence the lineage has broken. Guru Devotion is so critical to Tibetan Buddhism that this stance breaks all traditions. We have to contemplate why. I found my answers at dorjeshugden. com.
