The 2 CD collection "Molten Gold" has this long version of the song as well...this was my intro to the catalog....we've all heard "All Right Now" a million times...This set told the rest of the story!

I was at this filming...the band had done an amazing version of "Coast To Coast" only to be told they had to play it again as the audio had been lost to technical gremlins. I was sitting there thinking; "Oh man...that performance was over the moon...he has to do it again??" He did. And he topped...

This was cut live in the studio and the audience noise and ambience was added after the fact. The live studio jam without the post production can be heard on the CD "Funk Power; 1970, A Brand New Thang"

The song was written by Robert John who had a couple of hits of his own; a cover of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" in 1972 and "Sad Eyes" in 1980.

One of the guitar magazines did a transcription of Steve's medley of "Tales" that he performed live...i have it buried in one of the boxes i need to sort through yet...

I worked at a YMCA camp in the Adirondacks in the early 80's during the summer.....remember hearing this song on WSYR 94 Rock out of Syracuse...haven't heard it in almost 30 years...killer chorus!!

This performance was from the Tokyo show on 8/17; the version on "Made In Japan" was recorded the night before in Osaka. There is talk about remixing and repackaging the 3 concerts in their entirety for the 40th anniversary of the 1972 tour...but just talk at this point.

This is the second recording of Why that was the B-side of "The Wizard" single. And that is Mark Clarke on the bass....Mark was in the band long enough to cut the single...and that is Mark singing the bridge vocal on "The Wizard"...David Byron felt it was too high for him to sing.

I can't help but think that the Average White Band had this tune on their minds when they wrote "Overture" and "Digging Deeper" on the "Soul Searching...

I think it was Steve Hoffman who said that when he got the master tapes of WOF for his MoFi version of the CD, he noted that the master of "Crossroads" had no evidence of editing down from what was supposedly a much longer take of the song. Too bad all the multi track tapes from all the professio...
