Music, friends and family, what else do you really need?
If Ensoniq was still around I would throw all my money their way.
If Ensoniq was still around I would throw all my money their way.
About Me:
Walking into a music store I spy the Roland D-20 , all that good stuff with a drum machine and a sequencer to boot. Oh and something called a disk drive. Whoa its a computer. Yes the Casio was slaved via MIDI. The PG 10 was very necessary to get inside and under the hood of the Linear Arithmetic synthesis.
A good year goes by and I need more polyphony. Something not Roland to add to my sound. The Korg M3R fits the bill. I looked at the Roland U110 and various Rompler units, but I decided I wasn't ready for all the pain and learning curve required. Little did I know, I was going from Roland speak to Korgeneze . Not much different, just not the same. A Roland M120 mixer rounds it all out to accommodate all the audio outputs for all this stuff.
Another year, now by this time I know from experience I need more. More, more, more. The Roland D-20s sequencer was a bit too basic to help my music evolve. I was pushing the equipment and myself and needed something, well anything to help get those pesky ideas out of my head and on tape (cassette.) An Amiga computer was looking pretty good but not all that portable. Then a ray of light shines down. ENSONIQ! Who? What?
The VFX SD is a Workstation minus the work. It doesn't sample but I'm not feeling the need just yet. So back to the VFX SD. It does all I could dream of and so much more. My music is finally going someplace. The gear is starting to add up. Where do I put it all? Inside a 4 space rack and add a Furman AR-1215 AC Line Regulator to protect my investment.
The Roland D-20 was getting in the way, mobility wise. I do like the sounds and all that time spent making them, what to do. A Roland D-110 will do. Now the Rack is full and the wallet empty, for now anyway. Another year...
Synth action is nice but all I read about is weighted keyboard action and how about that sampling anyway. It will be an Ensoniq no matter what. The ASR 88 was too much money and was unfamiliar territory. Remember I want to make music, not spend time making samples. Well I find the TS 12 will do samples, but not really. More of everything I'm already familiar with and then some. I bought a Roland D5 used for a friend in 1992 and it has made it back into my arsenal just recently. Maybe a D 10 is in the future? So that is everything keyboard in the collection up to date. There are the guitars and related gear, the Alesis Quadraverb GT which plays back a sample through MIDI (2 seconds), the Digitech Rp350 and an Ibanez 540sbkltd. I have been inspired using the guitar but have not recorded with it yet. I still have a way to go, who knows what I'll discover. Being in a band or two has helped... visit http://www.youtube.com/user... to see the Band. I do not mind if you download my music for personal enjoyment, just do not get carried away and take credit for it as your own. : (

Interests:
I use the following audio gear in my music; Ensoniq TS12, VFX SD, Korg M3r, Roland D20, D5, D110, PG 10, M120, Yamaha SHS 10, Alesis Quadraverb GT, Digitech RP350, Boss RSD-10, Tascam Porta5. I was recording to Ulead Video studio SE bundled with the EASYCAP Capture for direct audio and video from a Panasonic PVDV53D. The quality was not so good. I then sent the DV direct to Ulead afterwards and record audio direct to soundcard into Audacity. I am now using a Canon PowerShot SX30 IS. After editing the video and normalizing the audio it is all mashed together and with a bit of luck it synchronizes somewhat.
