Darpuzw I should confirm what mikolajoskierko said. For us poles it is easier to understand Serbo-Croat then Russian. Slovenian it is different things pronunciations is so different. On other hand apparently Slovenian has a lot of original Slavic roots i.e. dual number which despaired in other Slavic languages ( in polish there are only some almost unused forms, still exist in Silesian dialect)

Hmm, mikolajoskierko, that's funny because I have an easier time understanding Ukrainian and Russian and funnily enough Bulgarian than I do the Serbs or even the Slovenes. Perhaps the Croats/Bosnians/Montenegrins would be easier, though I've never heard them, just read their literature.

Darpuzw: actually i underastand lots from southern Slavic languages, even more that from Russian. Serbian use both Latin and Cirillic scrip and it has few special signs in Cirillic for phones which are present only in the western Slavic.
Williamus: yes, that guy is just makeing fun of himselve and even i could notice that his "Russian" is just a joke. Of course i know "Bielaje Rosy", it was popular here too. |

I wouldn't say that all the Slavic languages are that similar. If you've ever tried to understand spoken or even written Serbian, you'll see that it's rather difficult. The southern Slavic languages have changed drastically.

I know Ukrainian from literature, because I have always been interested in the history, culture and land of Ukraine. Ukraine is the true Rus', with the most beautiful women and the deepest love of freedom of all the Slavic countries which I have visited! Unfortunately, my level of Ukrainian is still lower than my level of Polish or Russian, but I am learning as quickly as I can!
