You can land on the grass, you're just crap at it. Your fuel level continues to drop as well, so it's not a good idea to sit around for long unless you're on a helipad. This was little more than an advert for Kettle Chips with some Chad Vader filler; it adds nothing to the story. Product placement/sponsorship is fine (it's a grocery store after all), but try to be a little more subtle? "Sick Day" was one of the best!
