Ahmadi Muslims are Muslims who believe that the long-awaited Messiah has come in the person of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) (1835 - 1908) of Qadian, India. Ahmad علیه السلام claimed to be the metaphorical second coming of Prophet Jesus علیه السلام of Nazareth and the other Divine guide, whose advent was foretold by the Holy Quran and the Prophet of Islam, Muhammad صلی اللہ علیه وسلم. He explains his purpose of coming in the following words:
"It should be borne in mind that all bounties and the perfection of the faith that were bestowed on the Holy Prophet صلی اللہ علیه وسلم, had two aspects: first, the perfection of the guidance, and secondly, the completion of the propagation of the guidance. The perfection of the guidance from every aspect took place through his first advent and the completion of the propagation of the guidance was accomplished through his second advent......This makes it clear that he will have a second advent, and this advent - which is by way of reflection - is now taking place. Thus this is the time of the completion of the propagation of the guidance.''
The metaphorical second coming of The Holy Prophet Muhammad صلی اللہ علیه وسلم can be understood by reading the first few verses of Surah Jumu'a and the commentary done by The Prophet صلی اللہ علیه وسلم himself in Sahih Bukhari. In the third verse, Allah says that The Prophet صلی اللہ علیه وسلم has been sent towards the unlettered people and in the next verse, he says that there will be other people who would join them later. The companions asked The Prophet صلی اللہ علیه وسلم about these people. Among all of the companions present there, he put his hand on the shoulder of Hadhrat Salam Farsi رضی اللہ عنه and said that:
''Even if faith ascends to heaven, a man from his nation would bring it back.'' (Sahih Al-Bukhari - Book of commentary)
Ahmadi Muslims believe that this prophecy was fulfilled in the person of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad علیه السلام. He came and laid the foundation of this victory of Islam over all other religions and now through the blessed institution of Khilafat al Ahmadiyya (خلافة الاحمدیه), his Jamaat continues to flourish!!!
