Making Music - A Conversation Series
Making Music: Sean "Slug" Daley
Sean Daley a.k.a. SLUG, mc for ATMOSPHERE, treated his hometown to a sit-down on his life in music, his creative process and a few editorials he needed to get off his chest.
Making Music is a series produced by the Whole Music Club at the University of Minnesota. It features long-format discussions with talented musicians about their art. Musician JG Everest (Lateduster) hosts the show, which includes interviews, live demonstrations, videos, exclusive and unreleased tracks, prizes and Q&A from the audience.

Making Music: POS
Stefon Alexander (aka POS) is one of the tallest trees in the forest of Twin Cities hip-hop. His punk-influenced music confronts listeners with raw production and intense lyrics. As a solo artist and founding member of the Doomtree collective, Stef continues to push the boundaries of traditional hip-hop. His last album 'Audition' was released in January, 2006.

Making Music: David Longstreth (Dirty Projectors)
The leader of Dirty Projectors, David Longstreth, took to the McGuire stage at the Walker Art Center for a special installment of Making Music. We learned how the multi-instrumentalist crafts his music from a wide assortment of sounds, voices, and anything else with a touch of inspiration, as displayed in the Dirty Projector's 2009 release "Bitte Orca".
Making Music: Dessa (Doomtree)
Dessa is truly a Renaissance woman. She's a spoken word poet, an emcee for local rap family Doomtree, and a Jerome Grant recipient who also moonlights as a technical writer by day. Her solo release "False Hopes", earned her a spot on the Star Tribune's "Top Ten Local Releases" in 2005. We were pleased to host Dessa on Making Music in April 2007. She talked about her story as abundantly illustrated by a detailed PowerPoint presentation.

Making Music: Brother Ali
Already a legend in Minneapolis, Brother Ali has been all over the world touring in support of his most recent record, "The Undisputed Truth" released in 2007. The Whole Music Club was lucky enough to have Brother Ali stop by during a much needed break in October of 2008.

Making Music: Aaron "Lazerbeak" Mader (Doomtree)
Aaron "Lazerbeak" Mader is everywhere. Known in the Doomtree crew as the "Super Producer," Lazerbeak keeps busy with a lengthy list of projects. When we spoke with him in November of 2009, his projects included putting the finishing touches on Dessa and Sims's new releases, getting his own solo project out there, working on the annual Doomtree blowout, and reuniting with The Plastic Constellations for a show. He took a break from all of that to join us for Making Music.

Making Music: Anthony Davis (Atmosphere)
Anthony Davis a.k.a. ANT joined us for the 11/30/06 episode of Making Music. You may know Ant by the beats that he makes for a group called Atmosphere.
We were proud to have him in the Whole Music Club to talk about his start as a DJ and how he juggles the beat-making duties for Atmosphere, Brother Ali, Felt, and others.

Making Music: Erik Fratzke (Happy Apple)
While serving as the bassist for Minneapolis-based avant-jazz trio Happy Apple , Erik Fratzke also explores the doom and grandeur of heavy metal with his band Zebulon Pike. Formed in 2002, the hyper-complex and dense Zebulon Pike released their third full-length album "Intranscience" on September 13, 2008. On September 18th, 2008 Erik Fratzke joined us on Making Music and we discovered how he balances his interest in jazz, obscure 20th century composers, and progressive metal as a bassist and guitarist, jazz man and metal god.
