I'm Jonny. I was brought up in Manchester, which if you don't know is the wettest place on the planet. I don't look all that good in hats and it's not the done thing to carry an umbrella so I decided to move to London with my guitar and a bag full of songs about girls I fancied/loved/made up.
I'm pretty chuffed to say I've just won an award from BBC New Talent and The British Academy of Songwriters & Composers for a song I wrote called 'Emily' (fancied). This means I'm going to be lucky enough to work with a very successful songwriter in the coming months.
Right now I'm working on a record and rehearsing my live show ready to tour. I play an electric guitar live and create beats, vocal harmonies and plenty of other weird noises on the fly using a loop station. If you do come and see me live -- which I think you should - then listen out for what gets looped as it's quite often something someone shouts that forms the basis of the song. This is dead good when I can loop "I lurrve you Jonny!!!" but most people tend to use the opportunity to shout out a rude word and giggle as they hear it play back over the P.A. Most of the songs you'll hear up here for now are home recordings (which you're welcome to download for free) but like I say, I'm working on a record as I type and will be back in the studio soon as.
Hmmmm.....what else? Well, a long time ago I was signed to Nigel Martin-Smith (he made Take That you know) as 1 fifth of the new Take That...with guitars. Learnt a lot about making pop records during that time and got to work with some very talented people. I'm told I'm left handed but I play guitar right handed, which is weird (I do write, kick and wee with my left hand so I guess that's where the diagnosis comes from). I play harmonica, violin, clarinet, a bit of piano, a mean triangle and would dearly love to be able to whistle really well
