Back to the Eagles version for me. Their harmonies were awesome when they did this for their live album in the late 70's (released 1980).

You have Skunk Baxter there on guitar. The famous lead guitar on the studio version of this was by Elliot Randall. I don't know what he looks like enough to be sure, but it looks like it could be him and it certainly sounds like him.

I just read that his vocal chords have recovered and he plans on touring this year. I am not sure if that is the Simon and Garfunkel tour that they cancelled last year because of his vocal chords or if this is a planned solo tour.

I remember watching this. This was Cher's first episode of her solo show. My mom and I used to always watch the Sonny and Cher show. I was thrilled that Elton was on.

I got chils when he introduced John Lennon. I was fortunate enough to buy a vinyl of all of the songs that they did that night, but I don't have a turntable. What a waste of talent.

Thanks for posting this. I have heard some of Elton's early stuff that did not make it on his official albums, but I have never heard anything from his Bluesology days until this.

I had forgotten how good this album is. I have got to get a new turntable. I miss vinyl (except for the skips and scratches).

What a juxtaposition of a song with a bright, bouncy melody dealing with a serious subject. Just like Elton though. Great song from a great album.

Why do all of the posts of Elton's music have to devolve into a debate about being gay. This is a place to appreciate his music. Go somewhere else if you want to trash gays or voice an intelligent opinion. There are better forums elsewhere.

I was on the committee for our 8th grade graduation. I convinced the rest of the committee that the them should be Friends and we sang this song. I bought this album in a bargain bin in the mid 70's. Not much for the instrumentals, but I liked this a lot as well as "Can I Put You On"

Agree with other posts. This song blew me away, troubled me and I loved it. Great music should stir the emotions, even if it is only fun. EJ and his music have done this way more than most.

Billy and reviewers have talked of the Beatles influence on this album. Remember when this first came out and I could hear it then, too. While many of Joel's songs, especially about women have some bite to them this perhaps takes the cake.

The only thing to dislike about this video is that there is no video. The song and band are awesome. I should be leaving for work right now, but I have to wait until the song is over.
