Wheel extremely fragile and there is no slider and only the base of the original stay remains in the socket.

@MrWurlitzer1 It's almost a year since a fellow ringer and I got the bell ringing once more. We rang it for Evensong on two occasions, and for 'Back to Church Sunday' morning service. Shortly after, a typical churchwarden decided to fit a padlock to the tower door, and has said that the tower i...

@irkibby Interesting.
You may already be aware of this but, a local ringer once told me about a tower somewhere which has a wooden slider attached to the frame )above the tenor perhaps?) and set just so that if the bell is up-wrong, the slider is pulled across thus moving the clapper over. Just ...

This piece comes across beautifully on a good church organ with plenty of soft purring 32' bass (32' Spitzflote or Dulciana or similar) and a rich but smooth swell, closed and utilizing some of the solo ranks. Did this recently on a fairly standard 3 manual Walker organ which seemed to go down q...

@irkibby Learnt to ring here and is my 'home' tower. For Mears, they aren't too bad. Little on the loud side in the ringing room but good strikers. Glad you liked them.

A good day out had by all. These bells tickled us all - climbed into what can only be described as a glorified phone-box and rung a typical light MS 6 which sounded as though they were deep under water. The entire rear section of the nave was warping and twisting together with the tower doing a ...

@timmeh1507 On plain bearings except for 1, 2 and 6. The 5th is the first to dry up, but at the time of your peal attempt I doubt that it or any of them had been oiled sufficiently. However, Whittle is now fully maintained and are available for use. A new local band is currently being put toge...

Enjoyed ringing at Scorton. Not good for 'toilet chain' pullers and great fun ringing the 5th (one nearest clock anywho). Easier to ring it with clock case open as you're less likely to put your fist through the glass. They normally get a lot of bad press, but I rather like them.

@simonbellringer I have the pleasure of ringing here twice a week, and I can tell you for certain that these are very fine bells indeed! @caspercat0 You're correct, the organ is more of a concert instrument and is rather difficult to register in cinema mode without it sounding like a church organ with a wobbler!
