White Sands hails from Penetanguishene Ontario -- 'land of the rolling white sands' - in Southern Georgian Bay. The band was formed in 1989 as a trio -- Ken Playne on Bass Guitar, Dan O'Hara on Drums and Pete Dumais on Guitar with all three members sharing Vocal duties. In 1992 Pete was replaced by Phil Paget who took over the duties of Guitar and Lead Vocals. This edition of White Sands practiced relentlessly for a full year before playing out at the local bar scene which was very vibrant in those years. The band began to float original songs in the set list at that time. From 1992 to 1997 White Sands performed regularly throughout the area with high lights coming from shows at the famed Discovery Harbor Theatre in Penetang, and multiple engagements at The Penetang Museum's band-shell. In December 1997 the band played their last gig before settling into a hiatus which would last for 8 years. Wow -- how time flew? White Sands reformed in 2005, and in 2006 added a fourth member - Bill Oliver on Electric Guitar. Since 2006 the band has recorded one EP -- a collection of cover songs with a few originals sprinkled in for good measure, and two full length all original albums. In 2009 the album 'Cuffed to the Clock' was released locally with the song 'In the Groove' receiving Radio Airplay on Rock 95 in Barrie Ontario. The latest album of 12 brand new songs is called 'The Fox Street Sessions' and was released in October 2011. This will be the band's first album that will be available for distribution. Through the online distributor - CD Baby and its partners, 'The Fox Street Sessions' will be sold as both a hard copy CD, and online through iTunes in both single song format, and full album downloads. The band is very proud of not only producing the album, but also doing all of the work them selves -- writing, recording, mixing and seeing the project through to the finished state. Not to rest on their laurels, work has already begun on a new project -- an attempt at a full length studio/live album which will include zero overdubs -- writing is already underway and recording will begin soon.
