This must be one of those overdubs the "Picks" did about a decade or so back. Nice arrangement for once, certainly not as awful as some of the ones they did, but they are up a little too heavy in the mix.

It sounds a little slow to me, which of course lowers the timbre of the singer's voice. Perhaps if it was sped up to the correct speed it would sound more like Buddy.

This was Swing Time 326 - "The Snow Is Falling", (1953) that was overdubbed with strings and chorus, as was the flip side, "See See Rider (Lord what You Have Done)" from Swingtime 217 (1951).

Yep. He often used the #364 and #365 model Marine Bands, the only low C harps available in those days. For some reason they were badged as the "Echo Vamper" in Europe, despite the fact that they were not double reed echo-type harmonicas. You can see that name on the harp on some of the closeups ...

Thanks for posting the Jack Hansen overdub of this on you tube. I agree that this is the better release. Petty's surf-rock version is all over the place for some reason...and you have to actually open the page and listen to the track to figure out which one you're going to get.

I am disapointed that the entire ending with all the historic clips of the real space dogs was cut off. Also, when is this film going to be released in English? I thought it was supposed to be released by Epic Pictures US in the winter of 2009-2010, and I can't find it anywhere.

Not really the first version. That honor would go to the 45 rpm single released by them on the North Beach label, and posted elsewhere on YouTube as "Someone to Love", which is what the record company called it on the label, recorded in Novermber, 1965 and released in February 1966.

This sounds less like the Beatles than the stuff they did with Tony Sheridan a year earlier. It's as if they were holding back to be more "polite" - and just ended up sounding bland.No wonder they didn't get signed. They sound like any other third rate band on this recording.
