For the 'dead space' an easy way of finding a 'dead space' row or column is by looking at the number of points and voltorbs, if you add up those 2 numbers and get 5, then it's a 'dead space' row or column, though really it's only 2,3 and 4,1.

ex. 4 points 1 voltorb = dead space

3 points 2 voltor...
