Ok, many people have been asking about what the story or gameplay in Final Fantasy Versus XIII will be like. And I have been reading a lot of false stories about this game. So here's what we know. The protagonist's name is Noctis Lucis Caelum, which means, sky of the night light or light of the night sky(he's not emo, he's shy but he tries to hide it by acting cool). He is the last heir to Caelum dynasty, whose country possessed the last existing crystal(we haven't seen the crystal but it has been confirmed to rest behind the throne where noctis was shown sitting in some trailers) Other countries, in the other hand, seek the power of the crystal for war and power so Noctis' role was to protect the crystal(as you can see him fighting soldiers in almost every trailer) Then who's the girl that fought Noctis in the Jump Festa and DK∑3713 trailer? Her name is Stella Nox Flueret and she's a princess from Flueret dynasty. She and Noctis also seemed to be the only ones who can see the "light". We currently don't know exactly what the light is but it gives them special powers. (Noctis gained his powers from he "light", not the crystal) It is said that when Goddess Etro opens the gate to greet the souls of the dead, a bright light will burst from the sky and those who have the power to see it will be gifted with special power.
The gameplay of this game will be like Kingdom Hearts. But that only applies when a sword is drawn. When the character draws a gun, the game will change to a 3rd person shooter aspect. Nomura promised to use full power of the PS3(that will surely change if this gets ported to the 360) and with that, they can make use of all the environment around the character. He said he wanted an enemy to be able to shoot the player from INSIDE a building from faraway or on top of the building. The game will use the Sixaxis somehow and the director already had idea about how to use it. It's not exactly a world map like ones you can find in the old FFs but possibly more like FFXII. They initially made the world map like FFVII but later changed it to a third person view because it did not look too good with the world mapThe world will be an open field. You can walk anywhere except the mountains. You will gain access to a car and an airship throughout the game. The environments are also destructible. The encounter will be both symbol and random based, which means sometimes you can see enemies roaming around in advance but sometimes, they'll quickly come out to attack you.
