I'm a Board Certified Psychiatric Pharmacist working at Canada's largest psychiatric hospital and addiction treatment centre, CAMH. My job is Drug Information and Drug Use Evaluation. All pharmacists provide drug information, but "DI" pharmacists specialize in searching and evaluating the literature to answer general or patient specific questions. "DUE" means I also look at trends of medication use at the hospital from both an appropriateness and cost perspective.

When I get a drug information question in psychiatry and addictions, often the answer (when there is one) isn't in the literature. Fortunately I have 18 years experience, and at the hospital I have access to several researchers on the cutting edge. Sometimes my job isn't that I have to "know" everything, but I like to know "who" knows everything! Public Affairs used to ask me who was best to handle a specific media request, but turnaround time for tv is VERY quick, and the researcher may not be available. Eventually they started asking if I could handle the questions myself, and I usually can, as much of my expertise is reading the scientific literature and "translating" it into lay language.

This channel is my personal channel and is NOT associated or endorsed by my workplace(s). I don't have copyrite for the news footage, but I figure that since they don't reimburse sources for their time and expertise, the least they could do is let me share the clips with family, friends and anyone else who is interested (which is appropriate, as this is news and paying sources would be unethical).

I'm trying to write some 'behind the scenes' comments with each clip, as I find the process fascinating and enjoyable, and would like to share that. Also, each time I am interviewed, there is usually 5 to 10 minutes of footage (and often even more time involved in the pre-interview) and I'm lucky if one sound bite around five seconds long makes it to air. Most reporters have put my quotes in context, but even then I like to explain what happened. The personal anecdotes are added just because I'm often playing the role of the serious health professional, but in real life I'm a lot more animated!
