Coe had a great physique, but also a lot of flaws. He was not match for Arnold even here when Arnold was only at about 75% of his top shape and trained only 6 weeks after a 5 years absense. Hey Weightmaster97, so glad you like my handle.
Amazing that Bill Pearl was in his forties at this time. He announced his in tention to compete int he 71 NABBA Pro Mr. Universe a year in advance and welcomed everyone and anyone to compete against him. He narrowly beat Zane with Oliva third. Good job Bill!
Pearl was incredible. His career ran from 1953 winning the Mr. America and Mr. Universe to winning his last competition in 1971-the NABBA Pro Mr. Universe. Yes he did beat Sergio and deservedly too. I doubt if he would have beaten Arnold with fair judging. Sergio lacked continuity and density.
Kalman was fantastic. He deservedly defeated Mike Mentzer in the 1977 IFBB Mr. Universe and should have placed higher in the 1978 Mr. Olympia. Kal was a nice guy too. Funny.
