@MWRiff ...I think you're talking about "yodeling." It's when the singer rapidly changes pitch in a low-high-low pattern. It's common in Swiss and German folk music. Just enter yodeling into the youtube search box. (The pop singer Jewel is actually pretty good at yodeling!)
