About this user
Lifelong Pennsylvanian (Philadelphia and Wilkes-Barre, hence the screen name).
I use Roland's Juno-G and began with Roland's XP-10. Roland is my favorite brand.
Generally, everything sounds better live as camera clipping & odd youtube conversions can cut the heart out of a song.
I perform at restaurants, bars, weddings, and private parties, have accompanied vocalists and instrumentalists, and have given piano demonstrations at schools. When I was younger, I gave lessons. I collaborate with my friend Joy Crowers who is a songwriter and vocalist. I write songs occasionally and have some tucked away. I learned to play piano from Betty Kushkill, a traveling instructor and Edward Loch, an expert pianist. I owe much of my musicianship to Dr. Ellen Flint of Wilkes University whose rigorous commitment to discipline was the best thing I could have hoped for in a professor. In addition to being an effective teacher, she is a brilliant and passionate pianist for whom I have lifelong respect.
This channel is mostly personal and for what some might call artistic expression. I tend to avoid lofty or pretentious self-styling so we'll leave it at that. I try to organize videos into playlists that are designed to be interesting from start to finish.
The songs of Tori Amos originally inspired this channel as I learned them all in 2008 after being exposed to her at the end of 2007. I wasn't planning on playing them all originally, but it became an enriching hobby for me to spend some time most days practicing and playing.
I play by ear and do my own arrangements. Unfortunately that means I cannot share any sheet music with you, since I don't have any.
I should mention this channel is intended to be a positive place for everyone. Respect for women and their approaches to musical philosophy are paramount. Genuine critiques are cool but they're also very easy to distinguish from gleeful sabotage and "look at what I know!" displays. Stuff like that may feel smart to write, but it ends up looking embarrassing.
Hopefully you like what you see and hear and if so, feel free to drop me a line and say hi sometime. Cheers,
Brian
