@tostoday As far as I know, Canonical shuts down the repositories on all non-LTS versions after they are end of lifed after 18 months. They keep the repositories open for LTS versions, but you don't get security updates

@waynefoutz I like the auto-hide behavior in 11,10 better. You have to turn it on manually with this one, and it's kind of slow to respond for me when I bump the mouse to the left edge.

There was no solution until about a month ago, other than to run the open source driver. ATI has recently fixed their driver so it works with gnome-shell. The driver in 11.10's repo is old, I think it's Catalyst 11.9, if I'm not mistaken. Go into additional drivers and remove it. Reboot. Go to A...

@Linux4UnMe I eventually got it. Had to compile from source, the package in the Ubuntu/debian PPA is broken. Took me several attempts trying to satisfy all the dependacies.

KDE 4.8 is a HUGE improvement. Well worth the time invested in upgrading it. It seems a lot faster, and the improvements to Dolphin are amazing.

I've had problems with the Software Manager application crashing in previous versions of Mint KDE. I wonder if they've fixed it.

The latest improvements to Cinnamon a few days ago are impressive. I am really looking forward to Mint 13. I think it's going to give Ubuntu a real run for its money as tge

The Mint Software Manager was buggy in Mint 9 KDE as well. My old machine is still running it. Also, KDE can be tweaked to be just as usable as Unity or Gnome. I have found it's extremely customizable, and I was a Gnome user from 2006 up until about 8 months ago.

I wish Mint KDE would base it off of LMDE instead of the flagship Ubuntu based version.

@tostoday We simply have a bigger economy, which will take longer to chip away. We are not immune to the simple fact that if you continually spend ore than you take in, eventually you run out of wealth.

I've always wanted to install Arch, but being a homeless trucker, my only connection to the Internet is either an EVDO modem or hotel wifi, which makes it impossible to build an OS from scratch outside of a virtual machine.
