Songs that add on to each verse are called "linking", "chaining" or "sequencing" songs. As in Must Be Santa, There Was an old Woman, There's a Hole in the Bottom of the Sea.

Re the Monkees video - thank you VERY much. It's ironic it was called Alternate Title in the UK (I remember that now) - as only THERE would the US title have MEANT something! It was an expression used to refer to a character in "'Till Death Us Do Part" - which surfaced in the States later as "All In The Family". Anyhoo, ta for the info. I only just put it up - and you saved me from appearing dumb to TOO many people. Cheers!
