Interested in film and animation. Too many fantastic pieces of work to have as a favourite. How do I describe film? Film is an escapism that allows you to cross that line that seperates you from reality and your fantasies and back again.

Forrest Gump is an amazing film and I am guessing the writers must have had great fun writing the script as it was cleverly done and superb; Nosferatu is the scariest film for me up to now; The Color Purple showed me the strength women have inside them; Wall-E is the first robot ever to make humans acknowledge machines have emotions; Silence of the Lambs is a good film but I don't think it should have won best film as it had flaws in the cellar scene when Clarice Starling was in darkness and the killer was looking through night vision goggles and the picture he saw had shadows; Cabinet of Dr Caligari a must see as I think it spawned the horror films we have today. it is totally mesmerising; Metroplis is amazing! Forget about the science fictions we have today this film is timeless and was so advanced in its time; Yellow submarine is a mind at its creative best; I hate the Grave of the Fireflies because I love it so much it is so heart-wrenching and I cry EVERY TIME I see it; 'Tell me Something' and 'Tale of two sisters' I would recommend. The first one is a korean horror with a fantastic plot and the tale of two sisters is disturbing. Most people think Japanese horrors are good like The Ring, but I have to disagree. I have seen many japanese and korean horrors and korean horrors win hands down. Those who have never watched a korean horror DO IT NOW, there are so many good ones; see also see the korean horror 'The Phone' a first ever of a haunted mobile phone, how cool is that; the torture scene of 'Audition', if you like 'Saw' or 'Hostel' then this is the mother of them all;
Georges Melies' 1902 classic film "A Trip to the Moon" (Une Voyage dans la Lune), the first science fiction film ever produced a must see for sci-fi fans;

My worst films are: cloverfield gave me a headache with the hand held camera technique they used. I don't think documentary film making style mix with special effects. The idea worked well with blair witch part one as it was supposed to be a documentary of film students making a documentary and the hand held camera style made it look realistic; ZEIGEIST thumbs and big toes up;
Country: United Kingdom
Interests and Hobbies: It's a new hobby (or job but i rather class it as a hobby as I love it so much) and it is standing outside in the cold with a film crew.
Movies and Shows: I dont have one. I watch anything and everything. Once watched TV 24hrs non stop and it nearly killed me -not recommended but would recommend you just do it once out of curiosity. The after effects are strange.
Music: Anything that strikes a chord inside me.
Books: I don't read books, I only read films and scripts they are more interesting.

For something more mind-blowing, check out Zeitgeist.

For the best short films, you can check Imdb's list of Top 50 shorts. Some of them are here on the Tube like Das Rad, More, etc. If you checked my subsriptions, there's a couple who are into stop motion films and obscure Russian animation. Check them out if you like.

i believe film can be mindless entertainment such as bad boys or the such but it can also be a window into another world or something that brings out a certain emotion in you. It can be linear in its story telling [such as the departed] or open ended [2001 a space odyssey or most david lynch] It can also vizalize a novel or offer a different interpretation of a novel [naked lunch] The boundaries are endless and will only get more creative as time goes on.

I may have to check out my Movie Guide later just to be sure about Cinema Paradiso but I'm 95% sure that's the difference between the two versions.

The Director's Cut is longer. While the original ends IIRC with the hero watching the spliced kissing scenes with tears in his eyes (oooh, such a lovely ending!), the DC ends with the hero meeting the same girl, now older and happily married with kids, I think. I don't remember how it ended exactly though. I like the theatrical release better. Re: film. Just like any other artform, film exists to entertain, inform, educate, and in some cases, simply just because it is beautiful (depends on the filmmaker's definition of beauty, of course) art. Hope that made sense. : )

Cinema Paradiso is a favorite! There are two versions though. I like the theater version more than the Director's Cut. Two very different endings.

Mmmm popcorn and a good flick - - perfect! I just watched Bravo's 100 Scariest Film Moments and it reminded me that American cinema has some nice gore, too - - Cronenberg, Tobe Hooper, John Carpenter, Joe Dante, etc. Also, I keep forgetting about Italian gore with Argento and Cannibal Holocaust, for example. Oh, and I remember seeing the entire Audition film here on YT, so maybe you want to see that, too. Maybe you have. Enjoy! : )

suicide club was good! thanks!

I have seen the first few parts of Suicide Club. Subs were too small to read. Re: Japanese gore 'uproar' - same thing with naked children. In European cinema, it's perfectly normal (My Life as a Dog, for example). In the US, it's child pornography (ex. Pretty Baby, absolutely gorgeous Malle film with a young Brooke Shields).
