The Dell PowerEdge 1400 can run Windows 2003 and Ubuntu 10.4 LTS.

I run both OS on my 1400 server .... which has 2 GB and dual 1 GHz processors

Search on Ubuntu Dell forum (2009) for proper setup and tweaking for the Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Server edition.

Very nice work. I actually started in electronics hardware and migrated to software when these chips were introduced in 1970s. Construction today is much easier, thanks to a wide range of logic and special function ICs. Cheers!

Given the age of these first generation micro-computers (> 30 years) -- Electrolytic capacitors in the power supply section should be replaced as part of ANY restoration before inserting cards into the S-100 bus .. then a VOM or DVM can be used to check voltage levels.

For other S-38 restorers -- Retro-Tronics, which sells on eBay, makes Laser Cut carboard backs and bottoms for MANY classic 1930s to 1950s AM/Sw receivers

In addition, the original company in Chicago that made these pressed backs and bottoms has made them again for Hallicrafters restorers.

When building a simple half-wavelength 40 meter dipole -- it is always best to be LONG in your length, which you can easily shorten. It is HARDER to add length to a dipole and maintian overall strength.

BTW, why not build a 40 / 15 dipole ?

The new high capacity grain terminal, 4 miles south of Bushnell ("9 mile Y" for locals) on the Paducah branch, -- and Amtrak Carl Sandberg has increased overall rail traffic thru Bushnell.

BNSF is lengthening pasing sidings and double tracki...

The highway bridge is IL 41, just south of Bushnell.

The Roadmaster is headed south on BNSF, Beardstown/Paducah line (old southern IL coal line).

Tracks in foreground are old TP&W, now operated by Pioneer Railroad.

That is the "new" morning train run to western IL (Macomb and Quincy) on the Quincy leg of the old CB&Q line. Great for WIU and Quincy College students.

The Cold War (and popularity of Sean Connery as James Bond) made this series very plausable.

There was also, Man from Uncle, I Spy, The Name of the Game, Probe/Search (1972/73).

This was a favorite score for high school / college bands (and marching bands) .. until the Rocky movie theme came along in 1976.

One of Elmer Berstein's best film score (also scored Ten Commandments, To Kill a Mockingbird) ... and this was his known classic.

I always thought this score was a tribute to Aaron Copalnd's Rodeo -- listen to both of them and make your own judgement.

Alfred Newman's last score .. and listen closely -- can you hear the tribute to Gershwin and many others that inspired his work -- throughout the score.

This 1974 classic is one of the best film / music opening sequences in the 1970s.

Star Wars and Superman would come 3 years later to equal its achievement.

John Williams scored all 3 of these movies.

All capacitors have a limit life (measured in hours of usage).

That approach has been used for decades.

For PC motherboard replacement (2002 capacitor plaque) or other applicatons -- leading spacing can be critical for proper fit (enough physical space for replacement).
