@thevaughan5 I agree .The Mahler symphonies without voices /chorus etc have become virtual concerti for orchestra. Every conductor seems to want to start his tenure with them for some reason. Dudamel at LA with the 1st, Rattle and Abbado before him at Berlin with 5 and 1 respectively.

Thank you for posting this. My love affair with Western Classical music ( i live in South India ) started when i heard the NYPO under Mehta in 1983. They concluded their Bombay concert with this symphony having started with the overture Candide and Beethoven's C minor piano concerto .

Good to see the players smiling and involved with the piece unlike some of the established `great' orchestras where the players look like they could play any piece in their sleep ( and frequently do ! ) and cant wait to go home and watch the football match.
