Although I had visited Lisbon a lot in the 1970s, last year I went to this Museu for the first time. It was fascinating. I recommend anyone to visit it. Unfortunately, this most Portuguese of art forms is little known outside the country.

I don't believe that this is 1965. This song was a hit in 1963 and the clothes of the audience also point to that date. lulu was 15 when it was a hit and looks very young here.

Most of the lyrics come from Alice in Wonderland but they are also about the effects of LSD etc. so they do make a kind of sense. This show was on my 19th birthday but since I was 3,000 miles away I couldn't see it until Youtube.

The set is interesting. In the early 60s, before psychedelia, they often favoured stark, modernist sets like this one. I wonder who designed it.

Some of it certainly wasn't shot in 1941, since it shows a column of Tiger tanks, none of which was deployed before Feb 1943.

What an amazing set! Pure 60s. So much white plastic, it must be the work of Ralph Koltai.

It'll be a disaster to destroy this. It's a unique survivor of 1960s architecture. A few decades from now people in Sheffield will be regretting losing what could be a real tourist attraction, especially with the Co-op building next door.
