About Uplifting lives through story
Since 1896, Volunteers of America Greater Los Angeles (VOALA) has provided a diverse range of human and social services and programs. We now serve more than 30,000 people annually, ranging from prenatal to the elderly.
The real success of our work relies on compassion and an innovative approach to INNATE HEALTH: the inherent potential in everyone to lead more fulfilling and productive lives; and to THE POWER OF STORY: the knowledge that our life experiences shape the stories we tell about ourselves, and that these stories directly influence the choices we make and the way we live our lives.
We work with at-risk children and youth who are unwittingly poised to become the next generation of teen mothers, absentee fathers, and welfare recipients; we also serve men and women, families, the elderly, and veterans who for any number of reasons have become vulnerable to homelessness, substance abuse, illness, and crime.
