About Leave Out ViolencE (LOVE) Vivre Sans Violence

LOVE's STORY

In a senseless act of violence, Twinkle Rudberg's husband Daniel was murdered by a fourteen-year-old mugger more than three decades ago. As time went by, Twinkle began to realize that the troubled youth who had devastated her family was a victim as well. In 1993, Twinkle created Leave Out ViolencE in order to give youth the skills and the will to choose productive and non-violent lives.

Réduire la violence dans la vie des jeunes et dans nos collectivités en constituant une équipe de jeunes qui communiquent un message de non-violence.

Reduce violence in the lives of youth and in our communities by building a team of youth who communicate a message of non-violence.

SOME STATISTICS
50% of all violent crimes are committed by youth under 18.
40% of all youth report they have been victims of violence.

LOVE's PROGRAMS
Every year, LOVE offers practical instruction to small groups of youths whose lives have been affected by violence, and provides them with the skills they need to spread the message of non-violence to thousands of youth in schools and communities.

Training

Photojournalism: Participants are immersed in a year long program that develops the photography and writing skills necessary to document the violence that surrounds them.

Broadcast Journalism: Building on the skills learned in photojournalism, this program introduces news broadcasting, as well as video and documentary filmmaking.

Leadership Training: A series of professionally run workshops and a summer camp to impart presentation and communications skills and prepare LOVE youth to be community leaders.

Promoting non-violence

School Outreach: Youth leaders and members of the LOVE staff present the organization and its violence prevention programs. With the help of tools created by the young participants, they expose different forms of violence and suggest various non-violent ways of reacting to stressful situations. Violence prevention committees, established as a permanent presence in schools, work with students and staff in promoting non-violence.

Community Outreach: LOVE youth leaders meet with diverse community representatives (law enforcement agents, social workers, psychologists, teachers, partners, donors, etc.) and take part in innovative initiatives to stop the vicious circle of violence in our communities.
