@MasterBombadillo, the last dragon of Middle-Earth had been killed by the time the events of the Lord of The Rings occurred. The last dragon was Smaug, killed in The Hobbit. You must be thinking of the Nazgul, winged creatures that resemble dragons. They're not dragons though.

Fun fact: Ephel Duath was a location in Tolkien's The Lord of The Rings Trilogy.
