Chamberlin Rhythmate Tape Loop Drum Machine
This is a quick demo of my Chamberlin Rhythmate. This was an early drum machine which played back tape loops. It's a predecessor of the Mellotron. ...
This is an amazing machine ! A question: given the enormous number of times the loop passes against the head, what was the typical life of the loops ? What type of tape was used ? At what speed did it play ? It would be fun to see the inside.

The Studer Legend - the history of our tape machines
Video of our tape machines from the Studer Museum
Thanks for sharing this great video. I now feel that I should collect Studer in addition to AEG ! Great Studer machines all the way. I personally record live broadcasts on my PR99 and the sound is already greay especially with a high end tuner. Thanks to Dr Studer for all the great moments he bro...

@blechmusik That's correct but this still doesn't explain why almost none of the 250+ stereo recordings never surfaced. They are believed to have been lost in bombings, but some must also have been erased. If you listen to those Raucheisen CDs, you'll hear at silent moments some light background ...

The Furtwangler were issued on LP in the USSR back then, re-issued several times by Melodyia, who even issued them again on 15 CDs (easily found on the net). Deutsche Grammophon also issued them on two packs. Some other CDs contain these recordings as well. Other interesting recordings were issue...

Russ Conway - Royal Event. 78 rpm.1960
A rare 1960 UK 78rpm release from Russ Conway.
The Royal Event in question was said to be the birth of HRH Prince Andrew.(I suppose it depends how ...
A small advise from a turntable specialise (which I hope you'll read): your tonearm lifts too high and drops too hard on the record. This won't really affect your 78s but will cause damage on vinyl records. Moreover this will increase the wear of your stylus. There should be a small screw or whee...

Russ Conway - China Tea
Russ gets a Hat-Trick for this one - after 'Side Saddle' and 'Roulette'. 1959.
@ThePdex It indeed sounds great but there's some filtering in the higher frequencies (I have it too). These records were pressed in the late 1950s shortly before being definitely replaced by 45s. Pressings were made in the UK with the best shellac, and also recorded on magnetic tape and then tran...

@TheMrmagnetophon This is for air cooling. This was also used with almost every machine made around that time. Even the 1948 re-edition of the R22 still had the main cooling fan, but not the pipes.

@SatchmoSings This was experimental. All known stereo recordings made by the Bell Labs were issued on LP (2 volumes) called Early Hi-Fi. Indeed the quality is surprising. The records were 33rpm, as being cut and played electricaly. If you know other recordings than those on the LPs I'd be curious...

@Antoshik81 You are right, the K1 was first introduced during the Berlin Radio Fair in 1935. It was quickly followed by the K2 (which almost everybody calls K1). The K1 has 3 buttons on the left with the fourth over the second. All others (K2 and after) had 4 buttons aligned. However, four protot...

@Antoshik81AEG purchased the Pfleumer patent in 1930 and already built a working prototype in 1932, before Hitler was elected. So the nazis were absolutely not involved in the development of the Magnetophon. They only used it for the propaganda.

This recording is one of the many AEG tapes recorded with Raucheisen during WW2. Most, if not all of these tapes were captured by the Russians and returned to Germany in the early 1990s. A good part of them were issued by Tahra Records (France). From what CD did you copy this recordinf ?

You're quite right. 15ips is the speed most often used in studios but 30ips is used for highest quality in the treble. This speed doesn't give better bass, quite in the contrary. The main reason of the original 77cm/s speed (which the Americans rounded to 30ips when building their own machines) i...

@mkkiani Thanks for your comment. A minor correction though: magnetic tape is not a German invention. It is Danish: Poulsen Telegraphones existed in all forms in 1900: steel wire, metal tape and disc. However, the magnetic tape as we understand it nowadays (i.e a plastic tape coated with an iron ...

@stratocat9999 The tape has deteriorated since the late 1980s when it was transferred. The sound didn't deteriorate. @16mmDJ Nope, it's Rina Ketty. Song is "J'attendrai", a very famous song from the 1930s in France, released by Columbia.
