MACHETERO Trailers and Clips
Post 9/11 definitions, ideas and notions of terrorism are challenged in this highly controversial and experimental film. Machetero is an allegorical narrative that follows French journalist Jean Dumont played by Isaach de Bankolé (The Keeper, Ghost Dog, Coffee and Cigarettes, Manderlay) to a New York prison where he interviews Pedro Taino a so called "Puerto Rican Terrorist" played by Not4Prophet (lead singer of the Puerto Punk band RICANSTRUCTION). Pedro is a self-described Machetero fighting to free Puerto Rico from the yoke of US colonialism. He is obsessed with freedom, freedom for his country, his people and for himself. Jean questions Pedro about his decisions to use violence as a means to achieve that freedom.
As Jean and Pedro speak, another story unfolds. A ghetto youth played by Kelvin Fernandez (in his first starring role) grows up in the ghetto streets and crosses paths with Pedro. Pedro reawakens a revolutionary spirit instilled in the ghetto youth from childhood by a mentor in Puerto Rico played by former Puerto Rican Prisoner of War Dylcia Pagan (who did 20 years in federal US prisons for her belief that Puerto Rico should be free). Pedro tries to provide the means for the ghetto youth to grow into the next generation of Machetero.
The film is structured around songs from the album, "Liberation Day" written and preformed by RICANSTRUCTION. The songs are interwoven into the film as a narrative voice and the band is utilized as a modern Greek chorus. RICANSTRUCTION also provides an original improvised score that moves from hardcore be-bop punk to layered, haunting and abstract Afro-Rican rhythms.

FILIBERTO:THE CLANDESTINE INTERVIEW
Many people spoke of and about Filiberto and much was said about who he was and what he believed. The RICANSTRUCTION NETWERK has re-produced this series of videos to let people see and hear Filiberto speak for himself.
This television interview was conducted while Filiberto was living clandestinely. At the time of this interview Filiberto was #1 on the top ten list of the FBI's most wanted. His most wanted status remained until September 11, 2001. The interview was conducted with Daisy Sanchez, a courageous journalist who endured her own trials and tribulations when she refused to give up her sources to the FBI.
Filiberto Ojeda Rios was founder and leader of the EPB -- Ejercito Popular Boricua (Popular Puerto Rican Army) more commonly know as Los Macheteros, an armed underground organization dedicated to the freedom of Puerto Rico and considered by the US government and it's law enforcement agencies to be a terrorist organization. On September 23, 1990 while awaiting trial for a 1983 Wells Fargo depot robbery Filiberto cut off his electronic shackle and went underground in Puerto Rico. September 23rd is a date significant importance in Puerto Rico. In 1868 there was a violent rebellion against Spanish colonial rule in a mountain town called Lares and though the attempt at liberation did not succeed it brought about an end to slavery in Puerto Rico. Filiberto taking his electronic shackle off on that particular day in 1990 was more than a coincidence.
On September 23rd, 2005 Filiberto was assassinated by the FBI after they attempted to arrest him by surrounding his house in Puerto Rico. He was shot and wounded but left to bleed to death for over 24 hours. His assassination on that particular day was an attempt to kill the spirit of the independence movement.
