About this user
Greetings to all dancehall massive! A new member has emerged on the scene, hailing from the shores of the Bahamas! Born Garth C.M Woodside (G.C) but now known musically as "Venomous" A.K.A "Spida' Iyah", has been doing music for quite sometime. Inspirations came from many talented artists such as General Degree, Terror Fabulous, Spragga Benz, Notch, Tenor Saw, Buju Banton, Buru Banton, Mega Banton, Lt Stitchie, Papa San, Ninja-Man, Ninja Ford, Half Pint, Super Cat, Ward21 as well as the God father of soul, the late James Brown, and the King of Pop Michael Jackson.Even though these artists had a great influence on Venomous, there was another person who had a much more personal influence on him. His older cousin, Sean Pearson a.k.a "Sean Conley" who is a local artist from the Bahamas was that personal influence. Venomous looked up and had mad respect for Sean; because he made Venomous feel that he had mad talent and could definitely be successful in the music business. Not to mention, his cousin was just as good as his other influences.
In 1997, a then 18 year old Venomous known as "Pecka" at the time went abroad to the Art institute of Ft. Lauderdale to study graphic design. However, still making time to rock a few parties at his dormitory, this is where he met his good friend Adrian Allen, from Kingston Jamaica. It was Adrian who encouraged him to take his musical skills further than just parties.
Venomous then linked with another fellow Caribbean bretheren who hailed from St. Croix, Virgin Islands, who also was a deejay (mc). His name was Henry Crobral, a.k.a "Da Lion".
The 2 became a duo and met a promoter by the name of Mighty Jaguar, who put them on their first opening act for Terry Ganzie and Future Troubles. The two made a name for them selves, and performed at more venues. Unfortunately, due to personal reasons, "Pecka" had to leave college and return to his homeland. Not one to give up, "Pecka" continued his musical journey. In 1999, while working on a construction site, he met Michael Welsh, from Jamaica, who was impressed by his lyrical skills and encouraged him to continue music. It was Michael who christened the youth "Spida!"
With a new name, and even more dangerous skills, Spida started putting out wicked tunes, such as "Salute Di Sexy Galz", "Mi love Woman", "It All Ova", "Hunt Dem" and "Girls All Ova" just to name a few. In 2002, he recorded his first dub plate for a bretheren named "Cosby" a member of the immortal "STONE LOVE" family. Not only this, but he also did dubs for "Chip Lee" from the sound Lee's Unlimited". In 2003, Spida took a break from music. True to himself, little was needed to convince him to return back on the scene!
Late 2006 early 2007, a then Spida, gave the massive hot tunes, such as "Blink Of An Eye" "We Have", "Burnin Flame" "Just Get Ah Tex" "Dem Gunz" featuring "Splatta Kyat" "Plenty Pum" and more, which appeared on Nassau Bahamas' "More 94fm" and Miami's "Riddims945fm" Also a wicked performance at Miami's "At Your Turn Cafe",.
Spida worked along with wicked selectors such as Canada's "Blood line sound" Bahamas' "King Shaolin" and Miami's "Gnagalee Movements" Not to mention, having a few songs appear on Gangalee's mix CD "Da Jitney Ride 06" and King Shaolin's "Dancehall mix06". Now going by a new alias "Venomous", he gives the masses a wicked undeniable style. Having the ability to freestyle just as good as he writes, and vice versa, makes him to be a force to be reckoned with. Also, with the ability to change up his voice and pace, he hits listeners from every angle.
With the combination of an awesome sound and wicked lyrics and not to mention stage presence, this web slingin' entertainer is definitely going to make some serious noise! So, if ever your in a dance and you hear "WELL WHOO DAT AGAIN?!!" or a loud "AGAIN!!" it's the one and only! It is who it is, cuz das who it is, who dat he is?
"VENOMOUS!"
Looks like the dancehall/reggae world, or the world for that matter, is going to experience ARACHNIPHOBIA!
Go get em Venomous!
