I'd never heard this version till now. Connie's style is so confident and the voice assured--in the 60s I bought the Sandy Posey hit. Sandy's voice was very vulnerable and delicate by comparison. I'm only just starting to listen to Connie Smith,but already I like the fact that she doesn't muck so...

@MrJayBBluejay I'm sure that you're right,and thanks for the comment--it reminded me of this version,so I've played it again another dozen times! My first Connie Smith CD arrived at Xmas. I'll have to find one with "Invisible Tears" on it.

@barrhavener I think Cliff had intended to launch this in the States in an attempt to take off there,but it would be difficult to compete with Connie's voice. I read that Connie got a lot of stick here in Britain for stealing Cliff's thunder.

@karenjwmass2000 I watched him live in Cambridge,England,in 2003. He was very witty,and received tumultuous standing ovations. He may have lost some of the power and modulation he had earlier,but that's inevitable. He was a great entertainer.

I've never thought the stereo worked--sounds like she's underwater. She's fabulous without it.

Interesting photo. It has been suggested that these 2 never met,and recorded in different studios.

@hotklas The UK release was single track. Fabulous record,but no personal promotion by Connie,and little air-time,so it remained unknown to most. I still have the single record.

@sable54 Tony Hatch composed the A side Love Is Me,Love Is You,but this B side was a Davis-Murray composition,orchestra arranged and conducted by Ernie Freeman.

I know because I've taken the information from my copy of the single,which was MGM 1305.

Never heard this version before. Was it a hit in Germany? In Britain,she released a single track version,but double in the States.It was her last UK chart entry,reaching #44 in Jan 66.

You deserve a comment--the Christmas card scenes are great,and it's so well put together. Connie's voice is outstanding,as usual.

It's her ability to sing material like this that separates Connie from the others. They didn't attempt a range demanding such control and power,I suspect, because it would have been way beyond their vocal abilities.

Hairs still stand up after all these years.

Really loved this in 1962,and still do. Should have got more airplay.

I saw him live in Cambridge on his UK tour of 2003. He asked a female fan what she hoped to find in a 62 year old man,and the reply was "A pulse."

He was a great talent.

@oscarfu2000 I don't think British females could compete with Connie. There were many fine voices,but,in this track alone,Connie's voice tackles complex modulations that most other singers would deliberately avoid for fear of being overstretched. Connie Francis was remarkable.

The purest voice in female pop history.
