Uzebox - Full screen movie player on an ATmega644! uze6666 - 3,210 views - 2 months ago
This is a S-Video capture of the Uzebox playing a movie @ 30fps (160x96) with 15Khz sound. Video and sound data is streamed from a standard SD/MicroSD card. Due to the fixed 256 color palette, dithering is used to enhance the overall look. Movies are converted using as mix of Photoshop batch and custom tools. Interestingly, playing the video in low quality mode will give a better picture because of the "smoothing" caused by Youtube's codec.

The Uzebox is a game console made out of only two chips (an ATmega644 and an AD725 RGB-to-NTSC converter) and a bunch of resistors. Both hardware and software are released under the GPL V3. Look at my other videos for more information on the Uzebox.

Uzebox Open Source Game Console (HD) uze6666 - 8,826 views - 3 months ago
This new video introduces the Uzebox AVCore (a fully assembled commercial version) and shows off its potential with some of the latest games and demos out there! You can also buy the Fuzebox, a kit version with PCB you assemble yourself. See the project homepage for details.

The Uzebox is an open source game console based on an Atmel AVR microcontroller. The design goal was to be simple to assemble for any hobbyist and have great sound and graphics with absolute minimum hardware: an AtMega644 microcontroller, an AD725 RGB-to-NTSC converter...and a bunch of resistors!

Uzebox - Atmel based Game Console ( Chiptune Music Demo ) uze6666 - 21,557 views - 11 months ago
The Uzebox is a homebrew game console made out of resistors and only two chips: an ATmega644 and an AD725 RGB-to-NTSC converter.

This video demonstrates the system kernel's four channels wavetable-based "synthesizer" and the MIDI interface that allows composition of music straight on the console.

Important disclaimer: Since I'm a lousy chiptune composer, all songs are transcriptions of 8-bit gaming classics! Hope they bring your back fond memories. :)

Everything is open source and open hardware, see the site for sources, schematics and have a look at the forums for updates (fully assembled Uzebox soon available in well know web shops!). Look for my other Uzebox videos and please rate if you liked it!

Uzebox - Atmel AVR based Game Console (Only two chips used!) uze6666 - 61,355 views - 11 months ago
The Uzebox is a homebrew game console based on an Atmel AVR microcontroller. The design goal was to be simple to assemble for any hobbyist and have great sound and graphics with absolute minimum hardware: an AtMega644 microcontroller, an AD725 RGB-to-NTSC converter...and a bunch of resistors!

You get 256 simultaneous colors, 240x224 (40x28 tiles) graphics, a 4 channels sound engine with MIDI driver, NES joysticks ports and a MIDI IN input to compose your own songs straight on the console. The kernel is fully interrupt driven to generates video sync, mix music, read joypads, etc. so games can be written in plain C, no insane cycle counting required :D !

Considering this is an 8-bit general purpose microcontroller with only 4K of RAM and 64k of ROM (and no external RAM or frame buffer), it was quite a challenge to cram all that stuff in there. The site has the schematic and all code is open source. The hardware well...is open hardware! Have a look at the forums for updates (fully assembled Uzebox soon available in well know web shops!).

For now, I've completed a Tetris DS clone for the console.

Enjoy!

Electronic books, but mostly stuff on the internet.

By reading books?

I Learned electronics and programing mostly by myself. The video stuff inspiration came from a guy named Rickard Gunnee, one one the very first to do video entirely on a microcontroller.

Dude, where did you learned making consoles and stuff?
seriously where you did?
Can i have a little Biography from you?

Very nice console!

Hey thanks for the nice words. There's no soldering (except for the video chip), everything is wire-wrap. And man, that took a lot of hours (thought they were spent on many weeks).

This is an unbelieveable awesome project. As soon as i find a cheap retailer, i'm going to bild one. How much time did you spend soldering this?
