With the MTA's budgeting woes, thats probably going to be delayed like everything else. the R179's were originally supposed to be here around next years timeframe, but because of lack of funding and scheduling issues, it got pushed back to at least 2017, not unlike the troubled second ave subway.

R188's will start coming in next year into 2014-15... R179's arent due until after 2017.

yes. during the summer, the R32 HVAC's cannot handle the heat from running an all underground route, so the A and C swap R46's and R32's so that those old timers can get some above ground action and natural cooling in the rockaways. But afaik, this was the last weekend that the trains will be operating this way. i would say by next weekend, assignments will be back to normal.
