United Way honors Mayor Richard Moccia with this year's Income Award for his commitment to ending homelessness.
Richard Moccia has been the Mayor of Norwalk since 2005. Before becoming mayor, he served on the city's Common Council, Fire Commission, Fair Rent Commission, and Redistricting Committee. He is also a former constable, city sheriff, and state marshal.
Mayor Moccia has been a long-time supporter of United Way, and was one of the Campaign Chairs for United Way of Coastal Fairfield County 2009-10 Campaign.
This year his leadership and drive brought together an extraordinary level of community participation for the development of The Greater Norwalk Ten Year Plan to Prevent and End Homelessness. The newly formed plan coordinates business, faith-based, non-profit, and municipal leaders around strategies to end homelessness in Norwalk. Mayor Moccia's commitment to helping struggling families has made him an invaluable partner in United Way's efforts to end homelessness.

United Way honors the Junior League of Eastern Fairfield County with this year's Education Award for their commitment to early literacy.
Genevieve Halloran is the President of the Junior League of Eastern Fairfield County, Inc., (JLEFC) which is an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the action and leadership of trained volunteers.
In addition, JLEFC has a partnership with Thomas Hooker School in Bridgeport where members read monthly to all classes K-6. This past year, the JLEFC launched the Leaguers Building Readers program, which focused on building the home libraries of children in need.
Genevieve's passion for early literacy was instrumental in helping organize the Dr. Seuss Throwdown, a United Way early literacy effort, that collected over 100,000 children's books across our 12 towns. As the Co-Chair of the Dr. Seuss Throwdown, Genevieve mobilized the JLEFC to collect over 11,000 books.

United Way honors Enterprise Rent-a-Car with the Corporate Social Responsibility Award for their year-round commitment to community engagement.
Founded in 1957, Enterprise Rent-A-Car has ranked highest in customer satisfaction among airport rentals in 11 out of the past 12 years. The corporate culture at Enterprise for community support was set by its founder Jack Taylor. Enterprise has put innovative ideas and thinking into the hands of their professionals, and the results have been outstanding.
This year Enterprise developed a year-round community engagement plan creating an atmosphere that encourages both company and individual volunteerism. Employees receive paid time off for volunteering and enjoy working side by side with their co-workers. They also hold an annual workplace campaign and provide a corporate matching gift for every employee donation. Eric Stone of Enterprise, provides leadership with his involvement as a United Way Board of Directors member.

The Hampford Family has supported United Way for decades and has demonstrated their commitment through corporate and individual leadership giving. HRI employees engage in a variety of volunteer and fundraising activities including holding food drives and workplace campaigns. During the 2010 workplace campaign, employees from HRI went above and beyond expectations by doubling their contributions from last year.
