It is the "overdrive kit" that I built myself. It was a fun build. I had a little bit of trouble, but that was only because I wasn't careful enough to make sure I had all the right capacitors in the right places. With enough patience it is really easy and worthwhile. I would strongly recommend it.
The best part about the kit was that it allowed me to I perform a number of mods so that it is hardly an old school ts-808. I went through the very thorough and helpful instructions they provided and picked the ones that I most wanted. I think it really made a great improvement.
Mods:
more maximum gain: 2.7k max resistor
less minimum gain: 20k min resister
higher impedence resister: 620k
tone capacitor: .15uf (tone knob "more guitar friendly)
mildly reduce mid hump/improve bass response: .1uf cap
the most significant mod was with clipping:
asymmetrical clipping, I originally tried the stock symmetrical clipping but then put in the recommended asymmetrical setup with 1 1N914 diode on one side and 2 1N4001 diodes in series on the other side. I really liked the change.
I'm really happy with it and would highly recommend any BYOC product to someone thinking about it. I have no degree in electronics and I have no experience with soldering beyond this pedal and my MIM strat's innerds. All I have is a $5 soldering iron and some cheap solder/wire. I think its a great, inexpensive, personalized way to get some great tone. Enjoy!
