As a parent of one of the soloist singers within The Urban Nation H.I.P-H.O.P Choir, I have been privileged to be able to film the choirs performances over the last six years. The choir, under the direction of CEO and President Dr Rickey Payton , is made up of community members between the ages of 13 and 21. The choir members are expected to maintain an acceptable GPA, perfrom community service and attend enriching workshops. Whether they are performing for The White House, The Kennedy Center, DisneyWorld or the local Aged Persons Home, the choir brings their gift of joythrough their music to the residents of Washington DC, the USA and the world. Some highlights of the Urban Nation H.I.P.-H.O.P. Choir include performances at the White House and Pageant for Peace (lighting of the National Christmas Tree). With rave reviews, the choir has also shared the stage with such celebrities as John Legend, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, P. Diddy, Oprah Winfrey, Celine Dion, Wayne Newton, Shania Twain, Hilary Duff, Tatyana Ali, Jasmine Guy, Paul Simon, Raffi, Denyce Graves, Renee Fleming, Rosie O'Donnell, Maya Angelou, Yolanda Adams, Hezekiah Walker, John P. Kee, Vicki Winans, Karen Clark Sheard, and Bobby Jones. The choir has performed for John D. Podesta and the Center for American Progress, Christmas in Middleburg, The Center for Non-Violence and General Dynamics. The choir has also been featured in an array of media outlets including B.E.T., NBC TV, The Washington Post, The Washington Times and B.E.T. Weekend. They rehearse at The Urban Nation Academy , 8115 Fenton Street, Silver Springs MD on Wednesdays from 6:30pm - 9:00pm.
