The restoration of capitalism has done far more harm than good in Russia. It has brought poverty, unemployment, and squalor to Eastern Europe, not prosperity. Despite the imperfections of the former system, there is a growing movement to go back to the way things used to be, and considering the rather adverse effects that have occurred since the early 90's, this is quite sensible. The reactionary ideologues claimed that once the 'free market' went east, that it would have the effect of stimulating production, and creating prosperity. In fact, the opposite has occurred.
