JULY 2014 UPDATE! With over 1,000 votes collected over a week period, the UMass Lowell River Hawks won the first #AETopVideo vote contest. We collected 46.32% of the vote to take first place!

Jamie Gillis an assistant UMass Lowell women's soccer coach and Marge McSpiritt/Civil Engineering '14, a senior and captain on the UMass Lowell women's soccer team traveled during the university's winter recess to Nicaragua with the non-profit organization, Soccer Without Borders.
Jamie is a 2010 alum of UMass Lowell (in 2009 set the NCAA Div. II record for most consecutive shutout minutes) has returned to work as an assistant coach on the soccer team. Part of her duties as assistant coach is to find community outreach programs for the team.
Jamie and Marge posted a week long blog from Nicaragua and created the hashtag #umlinnicaragua to keep their family, friends and the university updated on their adventure. Show less

Meryl Streep, considered by many to be the greatest actress of our time, speaks at UMass Lowell in the latest installment of the Chancellor's Speaker Series on April 1, 2014. "A Conversation with Meryl Streep" was moderated by Andre Dubus III, best-selling author and professor in UMass Lowell's English Department. The event raised more than $230,000 for student scholarships.
