Multi-instrumentalist Mark Kailana Nelson has been playing guitar, Appalachian dulcimer, ukulele, and a pile of other instruments since... well, since a heckuva a long time ago. Thanks to the wonders of modern science, he's sharing some cool tips and tunes. Keep checking back, more to be added.

Mark Nelson's lifelong dedication to learning and sharing traditional music has led him to master a number of musical instruments, including the Appalachian dulcimer and its European cousins; mandolin, finger-style and flat-picked guitar, ukulele, bass, Irish bodhran and bones. Although he owns his great-grandmother's old fiddle, he won't admit to playing it at this time.

In the early 1970's he was one of a handful of free-spirited musicians who created a whole new vocabulary for the Appalachian dulcimer and guitar. He created a driving flat-picking dulcimer style, playing the instrument with a force and passion seldom heard before. A first place win at the National Mountain Dulcimer Championships in Winfield, Kansas in 1979 led to appearances at festivals, colleges and coffeehouses across North America and Europe, and a recording career spanning over 25 years and counting.

He once worked as a banjo playing gorilla in Dublin, but that's another story...
