About this user

Tyson Ailshie has been performing and teaching music for over 14 years. In jazz performance, he has participated in live radio broadcasts and various studio recordings, performing with national and international jazz artists; Frank Mantooth, Ira Sullivan, Irvin Mayfield, Andrew D'Angelo, and Matt Wilson. As a skilled double bassist, he has been actively performing in the Denver metro area jazz scene for the past five years. He performs regularly at Denver's high profile jazz venues such as the Twisted Olive, the D-Note and critically acclaimed, Dazzle Restaurant. In addition, he has performed as a freelance jazz bassist with local artists; Dave Corbus, Pat Bianchi, Brad Goode, Serafin Sanchez, and John Gunther.

As a seasoned performer, Tyson has sustained an innovative bass style and technique that is derived from the masters of double bass. His execution and facility are driven by a warm, rich, deep tone, melodic invention and creative bass lines and grooves. He is currently leading his own trio, featuring saxophone or trumpet, with bass and drums. The trio performs regularly around the Denver metro area, delivering a modern jazz sound with fusion enriched flavor. Tyson is also a classically trained double bassist with advanced knowledge of string pedagogy and technique. He has performed with both the Topeka and Longmont Symphony Orchestras.

Tyson holds a Master's degree in jazz performance and pedagogy from the University of Colorado and a Bachelors degree in music from Washburn University. He is currently the instructor of applied bass study at Regis University, and an instructor of music at both Arapahoe and Front Range Community Colleges where he teaches: Jazz History, Jazz Improvisation, Music Theory, and Music Appreciation. Tyson is also the director of jazz for the Mountain Strings and Jazz Workshop in Evergreen, Colorado where he mentors and instructs the jazz combo. In addition, he has lectured in jazz techniques at the University of Colorado, mentored for string workshops, directed various master classes and guest conducted jazz ensembles at local area schools. Tyson has been the double bass mentor for both Skyview and Lakewood high schools. He is a private instructor of double bass and bass guitar at his studio in Arvada.
