What he did was to show people how dangerous it is to assume that you are "safe" because your door is locked. People can also break into your house by breaking the window or crack the code of your garage door opener.

For the determined criminals and pros this information is common knowledge and they also got other means to gain entry. The sheer level of ignorance shown by some people here is appalling.

If you are that serious about security, I suggest that you read "The Art of Deception" by Kevin Mitnick. You will realize that the weakest link is human and security by obscurity does not work.
