El conocimiento se construye exclusivamente a nivel personal, y las elecciones son la herramienta para construir conocimiento. En este contexto, ya que como seres en desarrollo nuestro conocimiento se construye a lo largo de una secuencia temporal y adquiere una organización jerárquica que no necesariamente coincide con aquélla, el proceso de elegir se vuelve necesario para realizar el debido trabajo de reestructuración de los conocimientos previamente adquiridos. Es decir, se hace necesario 'volver atrás' y modificar aquellas partes de nuestros conocimientos que no consideramos más correspondientes a la verdad. Cabe señalar que la base del proceso de elegir es la valoración de la veracidad de una dada parte del conocimiento, y que para valorar adecuadamente la veracidad de una parte de conocimiento es a su vez necesario enmarcarla en la obra completa de la que forma parte. Una vez hecho ésto y sólo entonces el conocimiento adquiere un significado que nos permite compararlo a la realidad o a nuestros principios para hacer nuestra elección. ¿ Es ésta la verdad ?¿ O debo demoler esta parte de mis conocimientos y reemplazarla por aquella otra ? Es fundamental enfatizar la necesidad de interpretar cada parte de conocimiento como componente orgánico de un todo, y mantener siempre una razonable falta de fundamentalismo ante aparentes coincidencias entre partes de conocimiento aisladas de su contexto y mediciones obtenidas del mundo real e interpretadas sin incluir en el cuestionamiento el contexto que dicha parte integra. A nivel intuitivo, el conocimiento bien construido presenta una interconexión más precisa, fina y promiscua entre sus partes que uno mal construído, que recurre repetidamente y de manera innatural a asunciones dogmáticas que se encuentran a su base.
