What a great thrill it is to see these Trade Test Films again. A big Thank-you for taking the time to 'air' them.

There were other "super" pirates outside Dublin. Not quite so well-known, not so big; owned by Irish people but staffed in part by English broadcasters. I worked for two of them in Cork. People employed there have become part of the established Irish media scene. Among them John Creedon (RTE R1 evenings and TV), John Kenny (RTE Sport), and Nick Richards (Cork's 96FM). These stations suffered jamming from someone who, either officially sanctioned or off his own initiative, put out signals intended to interrupt or block the pirates' output. ERI, based at Whites Cross, was jammed on medium wave by a rogue signal, broadcast slightly to one side of 1305khz, which caused a nasty heterodyne whistle. And the link from the South Coast Radio studio at St Lukes to the transmitter near Douglas was also regularly interrupted. The person responsible was never officially identified - but was almost certainly a locally-based RTE engineer.
