Türk kültürü mü, Türk ırkı mı?

Önce Turgut Özal ama sonra daha çok Süleyman Demirel sayesinde, 90'lı yıllar boyunca eski Sovyetler Birliği coğrafyasına, özellikle de Türki cumhuriyetlere çok sayıda seyahat yaptım.
Başlangıçta bu seyahatler çok heyecan vericiydi, kendimi çocukluğumda okuduğum daha önce kimsenin gitmediği yerlere giden kâşifler gibi hissediyor, gittiğim yerlerde etrafımı ve insanları gözlemek için büyük gayret sarf ediyordum.
Sadece ben de değil. Bu seyahatlerde, siyasi ve düşünsel hayatlarının önemli bölümünü 'dış Türkler' konusunda yazıp çizerek geçirmiş Türk milliyetçiliğinin babaları da oluyordu genellikle.
Mesela, bir sefer uçağımız Ka-zakistan'ın o zamanki başkenti Almati'ye doğru alçalırken, hayatı Türkçülükle geçmiş bir ağabeyimiz, 'Bu dağlar Altay dağları mı' diye sordu heyecanla. Hayır, değildi. Ergenekon buradan epey uzaktaydı. Ama ağabeyimizin heyecanı tamdı.
Yine bir başka sefer, hayatı boyunca kımız hakkında efsaneler işitmiş ve kımızı 'kutsal Türk içeceği' olarak gören bir başka ağabeyimize ısrarla kımız içmesini tavsiye edip onun yüzünü buruşturduğunu görünce kendimizi gülmemek için nasıl tuttuğumuzu hatırlıyorum. Kımız, aynen ayran gibi, alışık olmayanların çok da hoşlanacağı bir şey değil.
Benim açımdan bu seyahatlerin en akılda kalanı Tacikistan ve Moğolistan'a yaptığımız seyahatti. Cumhurbaşkanı Demirel uçağına çok sayıda tarihçi ve Türkoloğu da almıştı.
Bütün Orta Asya seyahatlerinde olduğu gibi, buralardaki Türkçe konuşanlarla bizim aramızdaki fiziki benzemezlik konusu yine sohbetlerde başrolü oynuyordu. Hele hele Moğolistan'da, Orhun yazıtlarını, Kül Tigin anıtını vs. ziyaret edip, Türkçenin ve Türklüğün kökenini gördükten sonra yaptığımız tartışma daha da heyecanlı olmuştu.
Aralarında Türk Tarih Kurumu Başkanı Prof. Dr. Yusuf Halaçoğlu dahil çok sayıda Türkçü ve Türkolog ve arkeologla yaptığımız sohbetlerden birinde, herkesin 'Türk' diye bir ırk olmadığına ama 'Türkçe' diye bir dilin olduğuna ikna olduğunu hatırlıyorum.
Evet, bir Kazak veya Kırgız veya Türkmen veya Özbek ile fiziken hiç de benzemiyorduk ama sonuçta aynı dili konuşuyorduk. Bizi birleştiren şey, ortak kültürümüzün taşıyıcısı olan dilimizdi sadece.
Mesela bu seyahatte ben Orhun yazıtları başta olmak üzere pek çok tarihi metnin günümüz Türkiye Türkçesine yanlış çevirildiğini öğrendim. Yanlışı düzeltmek, o işi sıfırdan yapmaktan daha zordu bizim bazı genç Türkologlarımıza göre.
Örneğin Türkleri Ergenekon'dan çıkaran ünlü kurt, erkek değil dişiydi. Adı da Asena değil Açina idi. Ama düzelt düzeltebilirsen!
Asena'nın Açina'ya düzeltilmesi çok da önemli bir sorun olmayabilir ama 'Türk ırkı yok, Türkçe diye bir dil var' önermesini dile getirmek bile bir sorun olabilir bu ülkede. Zaten galiba bu yüzden, biliminsanlarının, üstelik 'Türkçü' biliminsanlarının bile kabul ettiği bu durumu kimse yüksek sesle söylemiyor.
Tabii bizi birleştiren değil de tam tersine ayıran, hatta atomize eden konular üzerinden 'niş siyaseti' yapmak da buna izin vermiyor, çünkü ırk değil de dil ve kültür temelli bir 'çimento'yu savunmak aynı zamanda barışçı ve kapsayıcı bir tutum olacağından pek 'rating' yapmıyor ya da yapmayacağı düşünülüyor.
